Description
Note: This screening will be in Dutch. A documentary in which art historian Frans Leidelmeijer, known from Tussen Kunst & Kitsch, takes you past numerous monuments in the Netherlands and Indonesia and explores the cross-pollination of cultures visible in various architectural styles. How have Dutch architects adapted buildings to the tropics? And how have stylistic elements from Indonesia been applied to buildings in the Netherlands? This documentary examines the construction period from 1900 to 1940, covering Art Nouveau, the Amsterdam School, Art Deco, the New Building movement, and the Dutch East Indies architectural style. You are taken along to striking examples in Java, Sumatra, and the Netherlands. A mutual cross-pollination in architecture becomes evident.
Frans Leidelmeijer will personally introduce this film.
