Seventeen years after the final episode, Michael Mann, the showrunner of the hit 1980s buddy-cop series Miami Vice, presents a modernization suitable for 2006. No longer Don Johnson rolling up his jacket sleeves, but instead Colin Farrell with a trucker mustache. No Ferrari Testarossa, but the F430 Spider. No soundtrack by Jan Hammer, but post-grunge riffs by Audioslave. Broadly speaking, a cool experiment on how intellectual property can be dated more than once—exactly what made the series so iconic—but a different, unique execution.
